The Barons jumped on top of the Indians early tonight.
Dave Doster drove in Kenny Woods with a double to stake the
Squadron to an early 1-0 lead. Jimmy Rollins gave us a big boost
with a 2-run homer in the top of the third, but Indy came back
with 2 runs in their half of the 3rd. An uncommon Chris
Pritchett error (Bill Buckner style) set the table for the
big inning. The Red Barons 4th inning was a short-lived
experience only slowed down by Kenny Woods' 3rd base hit and
2nd stolen base of the night. Bowers started the 4th by striking
out Pickler. The pitcher, Rafael Roque followed and grounded
out. Santiago Perez walked then got picked off first by Fausto
Tejero to end the session. The Red Barons went down in order
in the 5th. Chris Jones led off the the 5th by striking out
on "a fastball on the southside corner -Muntean." Lyle
Mouton proceeded to strikeout as well. Pritchett retired the
next hitter and the Red Barons hung on to the lead.
Chris Pritchett led off the 6th with a single up the middle.
Fausto Tejero came up and popped out with a 3-1 count.
Bowers sacrificed Chris to 2nd and Reggie Taylor walked.
Kenny Woods came up looking for his 4th hit of the game.
Kenny couldn't cut the mustard and the Barons left 2 on base.
Creighton the creetan led off the 6th with a double off
the wall. Marc Bombard pulled Bowers before Brad Tyler stepped in.
Mark Holzemer was the man summoned by Bomby so Indy went
to Norberto Martin. Martin grounded out to Doster with no
advancement. Fernandez grounded out to Rollins, but Gubanich
moved up to 3rd on the play. Jeff Pickler walked and Marcos
Scutaro was summoned to pinch hit for Roque with a chance
to give the Indians the lead. Scutaro failed as Holzemer got
him to groundout to Doster to end the 6th.
P.J. Forbes reached first to leadoff the 7th. Dave Doster
followed by flying out to Mouton. Jimmy Rollins struck out
swinging. David Newhan struck out as well to bring us to the
stretch.
Holzemer walked Perez and was lifted in favor of Steve Schrenk
to face Chris Jones. Jones immediately bunted in the air
and "Tetero" made the catch. Mouton was next and he walked.
Kurt "Get in my Belly Bierek" blasted one off the top of the
wall scoring the tying run. Steve Schrenk got tossed out
of the game in the melee that ensued. Mark Brownson was
the next Red Baron pitcher called. Creighton Gubanich was
the next Indy hitter and was walked intentionally. Noberto
Martin then hit a sac-fly to give the Indians the lead. The Indians
left the inning with the lead and the momentum. Gene Schall
was brought in as a pinch hitter in the 8th, but he struck
out swinging. Robert Dodd was brought on for the 9th and
got 2 men out before giving way to Barrios who got the last hitter
out. Indy's save-guru Bob Scanlan came on to face the Red
Barons in the 9th. Reggie Taylor ripped a single to start
the rally. Kenny Woods hit a tapper toward 3rd and Fernandez
bobbled it!! Everyone was safe! 1st and 2nd, no out for P.J.
Forbes. P.J. bunted in the air and it was caught by the catcher.
Dave Doster came up to try to tie it with a base hit but hit
into a fielder's choice. With 2 outs, Jimmy Rollins faced
the biggest pressure packed situation in his career. 1st and
3rd 2 outs, 9th inning. Rollins was not up to the challenge
as he flew out to left field to end the game...
